NeuroBeat is a social impact project dedicated to promoting brain health through the power of rhythm and music.
We’re building a global community of drummers passionate about sharing the neuroscience behind rhythm—and empowering people with simple, accessible tools to support their wellbeing.
We collaborate with researchers like the Clem Burke Drumming Project, therapeutic organisations like Rhythm Reaction and The Rockworks Academy, and drummers like Rick Jupp who share our mission.
Former co-founder, co-songwriter and drummer for Elbow, Rick is researching co-ordination Neuroplasticity and how playing the drum kit can be beneficial in everyday life. In addition he runs drum workshops, masterclasses, pre-production feedback sessions as well as mentoring musicians, bands and artists at all levels.
Steve is the founder of Rhythm Reaction who deliver therapeutic drumming sessions for people living with neurological conditions, physical impairment, or recovering from illnesses. Their goal is to help people realise their potential, improve self-esteem, confidence and communication skills.
Tanya is a director for The Rockworks Academy where they deliver therapeutic, educational and expressive music provision to vulnerable, hard-to-reach and disengaged individuals. She also tutored for the Clem Burke drum study in 2019, teaching a teenage student with Autism.
Stuart is a musician, designer and health advocate. After witnessing the power of rhythm in his own life and in the lives of others, he created NeuroBeat to explore how drumming and rhythm could be used as a tool for health, inclusion and empowerment. Stuart collaborates with researchers, therapists and professional drummers to share this vision with the world.
Marcus founded the Clem Burke Drumming Project (CBDP) in 2008 along with Dr Clem Burke (drummer, Blondie) and Professor Steve Draper (Hartpury University) to explore the physical, mental and health benefits of drumming.
Steve is an expert in the assessment of endurance exercise and developed the methods to assess oxygen uptake and energy cost in drumming. He is co-founder of the Clem Burke Drumming Project.
Ruth's research interests focus on how physical activity can be used and measured to promote the health and wellbeing of a number of specialist populations. In July 2023, Ruth presented her research on the health benefits of Drumming at the Royal Society, Summer Exhibition in London.
